Description

Nikon Z8 Overview:

The Nikon Z8, constructed with flagship DNA, emerges as a compact and lightweight camera, inheriting key technologies from the Z9 but in a more streamlined and portable form. Recognized as the ultimate hybrid camera, the Z8 boasts the proven sensor, processing power, and autofocus capabilities of its flagship counterpart while introducing a redesigned body ideal for gimbal use, event shooting, and other handheld applications.

Flagship Sensor and Processing:

  • 45.7MP Stacked BSI CMOS Sensor: The Z8 features a 45.7MP FX-format BSI stacked CMOS sensor, mirroring the Z9’s capabilities. This sensor ensures a balance of resolution, fast readout speeds, impressive clarity, and minimal noise, particularly in the extended ISO range of 32-102400. The stacked design reduces rolling shutter, making it suitable for various scenarios, and its 45.7MP resolution benefits detailed photography and enables 8K video recording.
  • EXPEED 7 Image Processor: The Z8 is equipped with the EXPEED 7 processing engine, delivering speeds approximately 10 times faster than the Z7 II. This engine collaborates with the stacked sensor to achieve rapid autofocus, high burst rates, ample buffer capacity, fluid video performance, and efficient overall handling.
  • Top Continuous Shooting Speeds: The Z8 attains impressive continuous shooting speeds, such as 20 fps in raw, 30 fps in JPEG, 60 fps in 19MP JPEGs using a DX area, and a remarkable 120 fps when recording 11MP stills, all supporting full AF/AE performance. The camera can buffer over 1000 raw images in a burst and facilitates quick on-camera review during playback.
  • Electronic Shutter-Only Design: With no mechanical shutter, the Z8 relies solely on an electronic shutter, achieving a top speed of 1/32,000 sec. This design reduces motion distortion and supports silent operation, while flash sync up to 1/200 sec. is maintained. The electronic shutter’s advantages include a high efficiency RAW file format, HEIF file format, Motion Blend Retouch feature, and Long Exposure display.

Fast and Intelligent AF:

  • 493-Point Phase-Detection AF: The Z8 employs a flagship 493-point phase-detection AF system, covering the full sensor area. The system leverages the Z interface’s high-speed communication and the sensor’s capabilities to achieve AF readings at up to 120 fps. It excels in low-light conditions with a Starlight mode and supports Backlit AF for challenging lighting scenarios. Additionally, it features 3D Tracking AF and Subject Detection with deep learning technology for recognizing diverse subjects.

Video Powerhouse:

  • Internal 8K60 and 4K 120 Recording: The Z8 matches the Z9’s video capabilities, supporting resolutions and frame rates up to 8K. The camera allows continuous shooting of UHD 8K 30p video for approximately 2 hours and 5 minutes. Internal 12-bit N-RAW and ProRes RAW video recording enhances color latitude and dynamic range, providing flexibility in post-production.

Smaller Professional Body Design:

  • Sleek, Modular, and Durable Construction: As a successor to the D850, the Z8 offers a 30% reduction in size compared to the Z9, featuring a modular design and compatibility with the optional MB-N12 Power Battery Pack grip. The camera incorporates eco-friendly Seerebo carbon fiber and robust magnesium alloy, ensuring durability while weighing just 2 lb. Weather sealing protects against dust and moisture, and features like in-body Vibration Reduction and backlit buttons enhance usability.

Real-Live Viewfinder and Four-Axis Tilting LCD:

  • Real-Live Viewfinder: The advanced EVF uses a 3.69m-dot OLED panel with adjustable luminance up to 3000 cd/m2, providing clear visibility in bright conditions. The EVF supports blackout-free viewing during continuous shooting and offers a high fps function for lifelike viewing at 120 fps.
  • Four-Axis Tilting LCD: The Z8 incorporates a unique 3.2″ 2.1m-dot four-axis tilting touchscreen LCD, facilitating shooting from high and low angles in both horizontal and vertical orientations.

Versatile Connectivity:

  • The Z8 is equipped with a variety of connectivity options, including a full-size HDMI port, 3.5mm headphone and microphone ports, two USB-C ports, a 10-pin port, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi, catering to diverse workflow needs.

Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S Lens:

  • All-in-One Versatility: The NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S lens is a wide-angle to short-telephoto zoom lens, featuring a constant f/4 maximum aperture for consistent performance. The lens incorporates advanced optical design, including ED elements and Nano Crystal Coats, to eliminate aberrations and enhance clarity.
  • Autofocus: The multi-focus system with stepping motors ensures fast and accurate focusing throughout the zoom range. Full-time manual focus override, a dedicated manual focus ring, and a minimum focusing distance of 1.1′ enhance control and versatility.
  • Handling and Design: The lens includes a programmable control ring, assignable L.Fn button, and dust- and moisture-resistant construction, making it suitable for various shooting conditions.

In summary, the Nikon Z8 combines flagship features with a compact, versatile design, making it an ideal choice for professional photographers and videographers seeking high-performance capabilities in a portable package.
